Teaching the Turrell Tribe: First Day of School 2012-2013

You could feel the excitement and the anxiousness the first day of school. No one knew what to expect but everyone was excited to find out what homeschool was going to look like this year.

The year began learning about God - who He is, how He chose to make the world, how it did not stay perfect, and how God set His plan in motion to bring his fallen people back to Himself through Jesus. We learned the song, "Jesus, Loves Me". It is a song we all love and we will spend the year learning all the verses.

We created our own trail mix snack and got to play outside. We reviewed or learned anew the letters of the alphabet. And then all the kids painted an abstract art piece where the only rule was it had to include the sun. Check out all the art below. The kids all filled out (or dictated) a survey of their favorites that will be repeated again at the end of the year to see how those favorites change over time.

After lunch there was math time and reviewing of previous material. The day was a success all around. Everyone wanted to come back for more.
