Baking up life skills

We run a small business during the spring, summer, and fall.  We call it our farmer's market business.  At Turtle Acres we bake items and can jelly, jam, salsa, and other specialty items which we then sell at the Kankakee and Frankfort Farmers' Markets.  Right now we are still "in season" and have to work on Fridays.  So school becomes life skill training in the mornings and then more regular type school in the afternoon with hopefully a fun Friday project in there, too.  Keirstyn, over the summer, began baking with Ellana.  Ellana bakes all the time, as does Sarah and Doug.  Debbie does the packaging and labeling with Sean and Aric.  Evan gets to do the dishes and now the little kids get to help count items for our inventory sheet.  Everyone works hard in the morning on baking and then Debbie takes the kids in the house after lunch to "do school".  So we hope we are baking up life skills on this schedule, especially since we still have 8 more weeks of markets yet.

This week we did begin our day with Bible time where we recapped the days of creation and how God thought everything was good and He rested.  We learned the Bible verse Gen 1:1 and finished our creation books by creating a cover, day 7, and then binding them with yarn.  They also learned a creation song to the tune of the 12 days of Christmas.  We then did baking activities, lunch, schoolwork, and then a fun Friday finger painting project.
